Everyone is Talking
About the 13-year-old who took his life after being relentlessly bullied at his Staten Island middle school.
Why do I care?
If you are a parent of an adolescent, a child who struggles socially, or even a parent who wants to ensure your child isn’t the bully, this matters to you.
Tell me more.
Daniel Fitzpatrick chose to take his own life after penning a heart wrenching notes detailing the bullying he has endured at the hands of classmates at his school. The letter was published by the New York Daily News on Saturday and shared on social media as well. Daniel’s Dad posted a heart felt video on his personal Facebook page in an effort to generate awareness over the situation. He validates the reporting about the letter his son wrote, and then goes on to share their families efforts to work with the school to alleviate the bullying. It’s a poignant reminder that our schools need more in the way of strategies and actionable steps to work with kids and families on both sides of these scenarios to ensure the mental and physical well-being of all kids. It is clear there is more work to be done in our schools.
That’s What They Said
In the throws of labor and delivery, there can be some pretty interesting things said to moms-to-be by their partners. Popsugar polled parents to get those nuggets, those gems – you know, the stories that parents will tell for years to come. Here are some of our favorites:
- “There it is! There it is!…. Nope, you sucked it back in!”
- “There’s no way that’s coming out of there.”
- “Husband: ‘Are you going to seduce my wife?”
Doctor: ‘Not in her current condition’
Me: ‘Induce honey, induce!’ #truestory”
- “He looks at me and says, ‘Honey, you are only at a zero and have ten cm to go. You better toughen up!”
- “It’s a boy! It’s a boy!” The nurse said ‘Look again dad,’ she then lifted the umbilical cord and it was a GIRL!”

Hack it Up
Grout – it’s one of the most loathsome cleaning jobs, so why not enlist the help the person in the home who loves to handle a power tool?
Power drill + round scrub brush + bleach cleaner = pure genius.
We’re not saying we’re lazy, but this definitely takes out some of the need for ‘elbow grease’. It’s a brilliant hack that will help you avoid wrecking your hands while scrubbing out grime from your bathroom grout among other things and that’s a total win in our book.
Menu Planning Mastery
If you haven’t caught on, the Instant Pot is kind of a big deal right now. It’s a quick and dirty solution to easy weeknight meals that everyone seems to be scooping up – you may also recognize it as your grandmother’s pressure cooker. You know, the one she used to make pea soup with the leftover ham bone from Easter dinner? No? Just us?
You can get the pot within the range of 89.99-179.99 if you want to get a fancy blue tooth enabled version. Pinterest, of course, has become chock full of recipes and we’re starting to get the itch to jump on the bandwagon ourselves. I mean, if you can cook your meals from frozen to done in no time, why wouldn’t we?
Did we mention we aren’t always the best when it comes to planning ahead?
“You have to do something in your life that is honorable and not cowardly if you are to live in peace with yourself.” – coach Larry Brown of the 2004 U.S.A. men’s basketball team.
