Decipher the noise of the online world

Be a John

July 18, 2016 by Staff

Everyone is Talking

About #BeingAJohn.

Why do I care?

It’s been another weekend where things have been so, so heavy across the United States. We needed something positive amidst the inundation of sadness, and the viral #BeAJohn Facebook post, was just the ticket.

Tell me more.

A mom of twins, Coty Vincent, took to Facebook recently to share a story of John, an Enterprise employee who waited on her while she was with her infant twins to get a rental vehicle. John was empathetic to her struggle to keep her little ones content and offered to hold one while he worked on her rental. It was second nature to him, because John is a twin himself and his twin is his best friend.

In light of this, Coty posted publicly to her personal Facebook page a picture of John and one of her twin sons with this message, which has inspired over twenty-thousand shares to date:

“This is John and he works at Enterprise. He’s also a twin and his twin sister is his best friend. While he helped me with my rental due to a hit and run accident, he held one of my twin sons as I don’t have a double stroller. One of the most compassionate and caring people I’ve ever met. We need more people like John who go that extra step. Be a John.#BeAJohn”

In response, Enterprise sent Coty and her family a double stroller and a promise for a surprise for John, that has yet to be revealed, to celebrate his kindness and service to her family.

We’ll be watching the Enterprise Facebook page this week to see how they celebrate John for helping a mama out. Because, we know all too well how hard it can be to manage multiple young children underfoot while running an errand, or dealing with a challenge like a rental car after an accident. An empathetic stranger can make all the difference.

#BeAJohn – pass it on.

Put Your Best Foot Forward

Your kids have dreams, even at a young age. Help them begin to put them on paper with a vision board like Jennifer from Baby Making Machine did with her daughter. As they get older, they can continue to re-shape and fine tune those dreams with a new board and you’ll get a kick out of how their interests and goals evolve. It’s a great activity to do together as a family or with your friends,  because let’s be real, we should never stop dreaming.

Menu Planning Mastery

Bring on the pasta! It turns out all that talk about those carbs leading to extra pounds was unfounded. Science actually supports that pasta is associated with a lower BMI. This all being said, when you add in those rich sauces and large portions, that’s when things get tricky and the extra calories begin trickling in. Everything in moderation with a balanced diet and you’ll be good to go.

The Kids are Alright

A new study in the journal Drug and Therapeutics Bulletin suggests that prenatal vitamins, which can be pricey, don’t do as much to help your unborn baby as once thought. The vitamins are marketed as a way to give baby the best start in life, but according to the study authors, “We found no evidence to recommend that all pregnant women should take prenatal multi-nutrient supplements beyond the nationally advised folic acid and vitamin D supplements, generic versions of which can be purchased relatively inexpensively…”  Their recommendation? Maintain a healthy, balanced diet, take folic acid and vitamin D and you’ll be set. Of course, we recommend discussing this new finding with your doctor before changing anything in your regimen – all pregnancies are not created equal. Always go with what you and your doctor deem best for the care of you and your unborn child.

Parting Thoughts

There is absolutely no way labor is harder than installing a carseat, I refuse to believe it. If it is, I give up. – Chrissy Teigan

We feel your pain Chrissy. Those seats a PIA for real.
